What typifies a good DAM system as distinct from any old document management system are the following:
- ability to handle large files
- capacity for reuse via on the fly requests for resizing, tranformations, conversions
- workflow integration with tools such as Photoshop, InDesign
- compound document indexing eg PDF pages, layouts and documents with embedded graphics
- mapping of embedded metadata such as IPTC/XMP, Dublin Core etc
- watermarking of assets and more.
