Part of Canto’s recent DAM Summit EU included a panel session on Day 2 on DAM for Cultural Heritage which postulated a number of questions pertinent to cultural heritage organisations with responses from the panel. Ricky Patten as organiser and chair of the panel took notes on the responses to provide a broader audience for the discussion – particularly or those that responded to the survey but could not attend in person..
The Australian and New Zealand museum sectors face many of the same challenges. The three day conference – MA16 – a joint event between Museums Australia and Museums Aotearoa held in Auckland explored the relevance and sustainability of museums and galleries now and in the future, and the ways they can be of social, cultural and ecological value. This essay has been written in response to Collections Trust’s SPECTRUM Digital Asset Management guide. The author hopes to add to the wealth of data in SPECTRUM DAM and to engage in a productive dialogue with Collections Trust, other members of the cultural heritage and museums community and those tasked with managing cultural collections regarding the place and practice of digital asset management.
