Live File Updates
Probably everybody has watched a folder on a server volume for new or changed files, waiting for the Mac Finder or Windows Explorer to update its file listing. Within a single client environment (only Macs or only Windows) it usually works. In mixed environments or via server script-based file changes, users often wait forever for the Explorer or Finder view to be updated.
HELIOS has good news! In the HELIOS UB2 release, EtherShare, PCShare, and WebShare, as well as the "dt tools", inform all clients automatically about file changes. UB2 includes a smart notification system which keeps everyone up to date.
Spotlight Search Support
HELIOS software integrates new server-based Spotlight compatible full text and metadata searching in PDF, InDesign and XPress artwork as well as all major image file formats. XMP, IPTC and EXIF standards are fully supported. Cross-platform support includes Mac native Spotlight, Windows Explorer Spotlight extension, Web and CLI tools.

PrintPreview UB2
PrintPreview introduces an entirely new document review capability to WebShare UB2, with hierarchical annotation support. This works with multiple-page PDF documents, Office documents (using Tool Server remote automation), all major image formats, and optionally with XPress/InDesign XPV documents. It tracks document versions and allows signing off ready-to-go documents.
This new annotation capability ties together the content, reviewers, and notes within WebShare, to enhance the review and approval process for projects of all sorts. Project name, due date, and status can be specified for the message thread, and points and areas within each image or document can be indicated for comments. User and time are noted for each annotation or reply.
This FograCert certified soft proof solution's new capabilities - color info viewer, 100% original page size view, and a smart discussion board for annotation - complete the solution, which is now ready to be tested at your site. PrintPreview with WebShare UB2
Starting with UB2, PrintPreview can be sold as an add-on for WebShare UB2. PrintPreview UB2 adds softproofing, hardproofs, a color inspector, and the annotation workflow to WebShare. Existing PrintPreview printerqueue based proofing/rendering features for EtherShare/PCShare/Base (Windows) are still preserved.
This product change basically means that ImageServer and PDF HandShake are not required for WebShare proofing anymore. Customers with an existing ImageServer and/or PDF HandShake service agreement will receive a free offering for the PrintPreview UB2 product, to continue with proofing.
The benefit will be that the combination of WebShare UB2 + PrintPreview UB2 offers a certified softproof, printproof, and multiuser document/image annotation solution. This is great for prepress proofing and/or Office document reviewing environments.
- UB2 is shipping! HELIOS UB2 product data sheets are available for all UB2 products in PDF format, and as HTML web presentation for online viewing. See also HELIOS Whats New in UB2
- The old UB2 preview-4 software download has been removed from the WebShare download. A new HELIOS UB2 test drive is available on the HELIOS website.
- After registering, a URL is provided for the test drive download. Each download includes custom keys for the 30 day test period. Demo keys or custom demo keys with more users will also work with this installation. As the test drive is for testing purposes only, a final UB2 CD025 version must be overinstalled when you purchase the product.
- The new UB2, in addition to many other compatibility and feature enhancements, adds support for Apple Lion clients to access HELIOS UB2 server volumes plus a new TCP printer driver. The HELIOS Meta extension also adds Lion support. This handy feature allows adding, viewing, and editing file comments to files in HELIOS server volumes. The comments are cross-platform compatible, available to EtherShare, PCShare, and WebShare clients.
- HELIOS UB2 also introduces iPad support for easy real-time preview and annotation of image files, as well as PDF, QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, and Office documents.
- The brand-new Oracle Solaris 11 and RedHat 6 Enterprise operating systems are fully supported by the HELIOS UB2 product generation. All operating systems, currently supported with UB+ and in the future with UB2, are listed on the HELIOS website.
