Canto Cumulus Update & Power Tips

Canto releases Cumulus 7.5.3

Hot on the heels of the 7.5.2 release - which provided compatibility wth the latest Mac 10.5 - comes 7.5.3 which improves the performance and reliability of the entire Cumulus line.

Cumulus 7.5.3 is running 'rock solid' on the recently released Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista, according to Canto CEO Ulrich Knocke. OS X Leopard performance and reliability continues to be stable since the release of version 7.5.2, though a handful of improvements have been made to support Apple's latest OS even better.

Latest Cumulus Power Tips:

This month's Power Tip is a reminder about a single menu option tucked away amongst the submenus of the Cumulus native clients. And, though simple in concept, this command can be your shortcut to what you need more often that you might imagine. Now you can find hidden records simply and easily!

The menu command is Collection > More Find Options > Invert Collection. As its name implies, it inverts the current collection - any records visible are hidden and any records hidden become visible.

Archiving Images using Cumulus:

Libraries and businesses in general amass an onslaught of new images annually, in addition to the collections they already maintain. Finding a specific image from the collection becomes increasingly difficult each year as the size of the collection expands.

Printable's FusionPro for Macs!

Printable is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first release of FusionPro version 5.1 for the Mac! FusionPro 5.1 for Mac includes support for Adobe InDesign CS3, Adobe Acrobat 8, and Mac OS 10.5.

FusionPro Desktop 5.1 for Mac is a complementary upgrade to all FusionPro Desktop 5.0 customers. Users of earlier versions of FusionPro Desktop (versions 3.0 through 4.2) can purchase an upgrade to version 5.1 for an upgrade price - contact DataBasics for details.

NOTE Due to the large number of changes to the FusionPro for Mac application and the high demand for this release, this release of FusionPro 5.1 for Mac supports ONLY the latest Mac hardware, Operating System, and Desktop applications. This would be the following:
- Intel-Macs only and Mac OS 10.5 only
- Adobe Acrobat 8 only
- Adobe InDesign CS3 only
- QuarkXPress 7 only.

Printable Technologies is currently working on a follow-up release of FusionPro 5.1 for Mac that includes additional support for PowerPC (non-Intel) based hardware, Acrobat 6 and 7, InDesign CS and CS2, Quark 6 and 6.5, and Mac OS 10.3 and 10.4. Stay tuned!

Dynagram inpO2 Update and v3.0 Announcement

Dynagram is pleased to announce that an update for inpO2 and inpO2 ATOM 2.5.3 is now available (Acrobat 8 only).

If you have version 2.0.x or lower, you must obtain an upgrade code. To upgrade, please send your C2V to DataBasics for forwarding to Dynagram BEFORE downloading 2.5.3. If you have version 2.5.x, you do not need a code and may download the update at your convenience at http://www.dynagram.com/downloads.

Dynagram to Introduce Optimisation and Planning within professional imposition software at DRUPA 2008.

Dynagram will show a totally new line-up of professional imposition tools based on PDF and JDF workflows. This includes the introduction of the inpO2 V3.0 imposition software for Adobe Acrobat along with two new modules for imposition planning and ganging optimisation through automatic layout calculation - designed to enhance communication between job planning and print production.

In addition, Dynagram will be showing its DynaStrip imposition software version 5.2 working within a JDF workflow with MIS and RIP partners in the CIP4 JDF Pavilion.

IMPORTANT NOTE for inpO2 users
In order to update your inpO2, it is important to send Dynagram your C2V according to the activation procedure found in the Getting Started document included with your product.

HELIOS UB+ Updates and TechInfos

UB+ ICC DeviceLink support opens new capabilities:

Starting with HELIOS UB+ HELIOS has introduced a major upgrade of the built-in color management support including:
- ICC 4 profiles support
- Black Point Compensation (BPC) support
- Option to preserve primary colors in vector and raster images
- ICC DeviceLink profile support.

New UB+ desktop database relocation feature

The new UB+ update u0710 adds a major new feature to the desktop server. After setting a preference switch, the new desktop server allows the '.Desktop' database to be relocated in a custom location outside of the volume. This brings the following advantages:
- Stable '.Desktop' database if the volume is running out of disk space
- Enhanced performance for extremely busy volumes
- Avoids Sun ZFS time-outs due to ZFS '.Desktop' flush delay.

Red Hat 5 support

HELIOS has updated Linux support to include Red Hat 5. Red Hat does not include the AppleTalk kernel module, so a custom kernel must be built. Another option is to use the HELIOS pre-compiled kernel module. Details with step-by-step instructions are available on the 'HELIOS supported platforms' page http://www.helios.de/support/

New Tool Server example tools

Most any application that can be automated, e.g.: via AppleScript, VisualBasic, SDK's, shell scripts, etc., can now easily become a Tool Server tool. HELIOS Tool Server provides the infrastructure to use tools, including:
- Remote distribution of jobs between Windows, Mac, and UNIX
- Return the result and error messages
- Fail safety and error handling
- Automatic load balancing depending on availability, job load and CPU performance
- Zero network configuration via Bonjour, Tool Client automatically finds its servers
- License-free installation on additional Tool Server workstations (similar to Create PDF Server)

HELIOS UB+ includes sample tools. To help resellers, programmers and scripting end-users to develop their own tools for Tool Server, we have additional examples available.

The following updates are available for UB+ customers. Most of them introduce new enhancements for UB+ customers with service agreements. Please always make sure you have installed all current updates. The HELIOS Update Installer makes it very easy to download, install, or remove updates.
