CCC FAQ Updates

The DataBasics Cumulus Customer Care Centre FAQ database has been updated to run on the new Cumulus 7 with Internet Client Pro. You will find it faster to load and display.

We have added some more queries about backing up and hints and tips for working faster with Cumulus eg a very good practice is to turn off "Check for Duplicates" when cataloguing CD/DVDs.

Dynagram ships DynaStrip 4.5

DynaStrip 4.5 is now shipping.
Version 4.5 of DynaStrip extends integration both upstream and downstream from the imposition process. While JDF import introduces integration with leading MIS providers, adding JDF cutting and folding information at output links the imposition process to postpress equipment.

More than just a time saver, DynaStrip's JDF import ensures that the job will be imposed as specified in the original quote, avoiding costly mistakes and reducing turnaround times.

Dev Zero G releases Printsure 5.2.3

Below is the list of main new features/enhancements available in the latest release:

1. 'Font not subset', 'Graphics Element Lies Completely Outside', Font not embedded criteria and SPOTCOLOUR criterion fix did not work correctly in the previous version if any other fixes were used in a profile;
2. Post-processing script can now be used after uploading data to an FTP server;
3. A list of illegal characters has been added to the 'Server Settings' page;
4. Default PrintSure server log level is set to INFO; 5. 'White overprint' fix did not work correctly.

In order to obtain this new release, you should login to the DZG nVerge server as a 'sendtrial' user using the login details below and send it to your satellite at any time.

* HELIOS PDF HandShake UB offers Acrobat-compatible PDF preflight
HELIOS Press release (pdf): Now, HELIOS PDF HandShake users can automatically inspect PDF files to verify printing compatibility, and conformance with standards such as PDF/X. pdfInspector3, the industry standard for checking PDF files, is automated by PDF HandShake to examine PDF files as soon as they are created. Automated server-based PDF preflight is easy to use, saves time, and ensures that incoming and outgoing PDF files are production compatible. Users get the same results as if each PDF was manually verified using Adobe Acrobat Professional.

pdfInspektor3 is included in PDF HandShake UB and works fully integrated with the entire HELIOS product suite. HELIOS ImageServer adds hot folder support for automatic or interactive preflight. HELIOS WebShare provides a fast and secure managed file transfer platform for remote users.

This high level of integration provides breakthrough, server-based, automated PDF checking from any networked PC at any point in the workflow. PDF reports, output directories, and post-processing actions, can all be freely accessed and configured.

* Quark XPress 7 ImageServer compatibility advice: ImageServer is compatible with XPress 7 using the same features like XPress 6.5:

HELIOS Preview XT:
The existing XPress 6.5 XTension does not work, a new XPress 7 compatible HELIOS Preview XT is under development and will be released later this year.

HELIOS OPI TuneUp XT:
This XTension enables XPress to allow colorized linework and grayscale images print composite for proper inRIP separation, this feature is still missing in XPress 7. The existing HELIOS OPI TuneUp XT for XPress 6.5 does not work, a new XPress 7 compatible XTension is under development and will be released later this year.

XPress 7 Transparency Features:
The new XPress 7 transparency feature is incompatible with true PDF transparencies and therefore breaks HELIOS PDF native OPI image replacement. Outputting XPress 7 documents via PostScript or PDF will result into low-res areas for transparent affected objects. We reported this to Quark and they consider to enhance their transparency support to make it compatible with PDF 1.4 or newer.

Updates are available for all customers with a software service agreement. The updates can be downloaded automatically via the HELIOS Update Installer or from the HELIOS website (Support) http://www.helios.de/support/.

Technical Hints & Tips

HELIOS: pdfInspektor3 3.0.192/u0561 profiles

The PDF HandShake 3.0.0 update u0561 and PDF HandShake 3.0.5 release (for Mac OS X Intel, Solaris Intel, and Windows) contains 'PDF/X-Ready' profiles where the tagging for PDF/X is broken. There is an error message:
Error -4 'Argument version 4.0 is wrong: unsupported version'

Updated profiles can be downloaded via HELIOS WebShare at:
http://webshare.helios.de/
User name: tools
Password: tools

Go to sharepoint 'HELIOS Tools' and download the 'CallasProfiles' folder which contains the tar archive and this TechInfo.
To install these profiles, log in on terminal as 'root' and perform the following tasks:
- copy 'CallasProfiles.tgz' to HELIOSDIR
- # cd HELIOSDIR
- # tar xvfz CallasProfiles.tgz
This will replace the profiles for the PDF/X creation.
Note: You need to extract the profiles again after a new installation or when 'start-helios -i' is performed since this will replace the new profiles.
